Bonita Springs, Florida showed digital. Total
sales - 5 postcards, about $12
After
a week long packing marathon and grueling 20+ hour ride from
Michigan I arrived just a couple of hours late... Wow - Not a
high end show, we're talking cardboard salt shakers printed with
football team logos and dog head welcome mats. On Saturday afternoon
I taped a slightly cynical monolog just to pass the time, here's
a brief excerpt.
Aside
from the raw EXPERIENCE, the real point of going to Bonita Springs
was meeting Jako who ran the booth one row over and then through
him meeting Stan. Stan invited Jako and I to a drum circle at
Summerland, Ed and Skip's reservation for Pagans and Wiccans.
This set a new world record for finding the local contingent
of freaks and mystical types - one minute I was packing the trailer
in a mall parking lot and the next I was in a great sand circle
surrounded by palm and pine, drumming with about 20 other shining
stars.
The
circle was originally opened in the canopy by a lightning strike,
and then improved by Ed and his brother Skip (they own about
5 acres of jungle/forest) with the help of some enthusiastic
volunteers. There was this fantastic ethereal vocal improv by
Mary Beth reminiscent of my friend Kathryn Pastotnik (formerly
Shultz) which I wished I had recorded. Here's
a tiny snippet of what I did get. I'm the one hitting the
emphasizing clack with a couple of sticks I found in situ. You'll
also hear Stan who recently taught himself to play flute. Stan
is also teaching himself how to be Jesus, and he's making excellent
progress on both fronts.
I
left my trailer at Ed's for a couple of days while I ran some
logistics and when I came to get it Peanut the cat (one of three
I adopted after their stint with NASA) bolted. I stayed over
night waiting for her to return but no dice. A week later, Ed
has nothing to report. I am going to attempt a recovery when
I detour back through Bonita Springs after the Delray show, on
my way north to Syracuse, NY. It's possible she is either doing
one of those Readers Digest treks back to Michigan or she's been
eaten by an alligator. Although she is a very small animal, she
is extremely wily so I imagine she's still alive. Keep your fingers
crossed. |
